CHAPTER 2

GIRL IN THE WOODS

He looked at his water-bottle. It was empty. He looked all around and found himself in a lonely jungle. It was his third day without food and he didn’t know how to get it either. That part of the jungle was denser and unfortunately, he had no idea of the wild nuts which are nutritious sparingly. The only thing which was relieving was the coolness of the climate. It had rained previous night and the ground was damp beneath his feet. But his sweat had wetted his magenta coloured shirt. He was dead tired. But he could not stop. He was urged to walk through the jungle since he was badly in the need of shelter.

It was almost dusk when he came across that part of the jungle where dry leaves had fallen to form a bed. This part seemed as if nobody had ever walked there. But he had to walk. Suddenly a view caught his eye. He saw a human leg coming out from the back of a tree. He rubbed his eyes in surprise. He couldn’t believe that he found a human in that deadly jungle of Assam. Though, he had encountered a wild vixen previous day and somehow saved himself. It was already dark and he could not watch clearly but somewhere in his heart he prayed that human to be alive. Now, it was deep dark and the human appeared sitting in a black silhouette. He gazed the figure. It was a girl. She was wearing messed up black shirt and black loose pants.

“Thank God!” he exclaimed going nearer, “You are the first human I came across in past seven days.” He uttered and sat by the tree just opposite to her.

The girl’s head was resting on her bent right knee while her left leg was stretched out which he had figured. She heard his words and ogled him.

“Why do you expect me to be a human?” she whispered back not making a slightest movement.

“Ohh!” the man giggled, “So you are not a human? Then who are you? A vampire?” he laughed but held his belly and said, “Look girl, this is my fourth day without food and I am too weak even to laugh.”

She gave him a lean look and replied, “I wish I were a vampire but I am the worst…!”

“What???” he asked. He had not listened to her properly. Her words had come as a whisper to him.

She tilted her head which gave her a full ogle view. She watched him in the dark…! He was tall, fair and well built-up. His lips were walnut coloured and there was a lean contented smile across them. He had black smiling eyes. There was a winsome look over his face which gave a sign of his cheerful nature. He looked weak and exhausted and she understood that he was perhaps lost in the jungle. But the thing which disturbed her the most was the sight she caught a little below the collars of his shirt.
